In our walk through the book of Jeremiah, we’ve been confronted with the both the harsh realities and promised hope of living in a post-Christian world. Here’s a picture of how our members are being salt and light to a lost generation.

A Hand Up, Not a Hand-Out
Started by Creely Wilson in 1996, this ministry serves working poor women in the greater Nashville area. Supported by grants, churches, individual donors, and prayer, it equips these women with basic life and job skills they need to be self-sufficient and gives them the chance to experience transformation in mind, body, heart, and soul through Christ.
They are mentored and trained in a loving environment where self-images can be restored, and it helps them obtain sustained employment, adequate income, housing, transportation, childcare, and medical care. Last year, nearly 350 women were served and mentored. Currently, they’re serving 27 women, from ages 19 to 55.
Something to think about…
If you have 5 minutes:
Listen to the song “And Now My Lifesong Sings” by Casting Crowns.
If you have 30 minutes:
Read John 4:1-42. Consider how the woman at the well experienced the progressive
stages of faith in Christ—she met him, learned about him, came to believe, and went out
and told others about him. Think about how she took the initiative to share what she had
experienced.
If you have a day:
Visit CWJC to volunteer and/or to find out about other ways to serve on Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings and nights.
If you have a week:
Read the book Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver.
