In our walk through the book of Jeremiah, we’ve been confronted with the both the harsh realities and promised hope of living in a post-Christian world. Here’s a picture of how our members are being salt and light to a lost generation.
In 1992, BBC member and founder Daryl Murray began this ministry to take men from a destructive life of drugs and alcohol into a community of healing, reconciliation, and recovery. These men are introduced to Christ, discipled, and then guided to a church home.
Recovery Components:
Spiritual: understanding God’s Word, learning spiritual discipline, discovering spiritual gifts and applying them, and a 12-step recovery program
Home: experiencing transitional living, receiving meals, and gaining independent living skills
Work: moving away from “entitlements,” embracing individual responsibility, and finding new independence with proven employment history
Programs:
Permanent Supportive Housing: Designed for individuals who have at least six months of sobriety and who wish to maintain it in a supportive community.
Welcome Home Works: Helps those recovering from addiction to re-enter the work force and remain stabilized in employment.
Right Turns: Brings together property owners and managers and local agencies who provide transitional living programs for formerly homeless people.
Home Ownership: This includes future dreams of home ownership for those who demonstrate a sustained period of responsible living.
Transitional Housing: For men who desire a safe, sober, structured environment in which to recover and who are willing to make a minimum six months commitment to begin putting their lives back together.
Service Opportunities:
Host families to cook and serve meals
Donate men’s work clothes, tools, and other items
Donate Christian movies and audio tapes
Employers: Consider partnering with Welcome Home to employ their residents
Home and Business Owners: consider allowing Welcome Home Works to bid on your next renovation, roofing, or painting project.
Something to think about…
If you have 3 minutes:
Read Philippians 2:5-11 and Proverbs 14:31. Consider how you can humble yourself as Christ did and help lead someone from a world of brokenness to wholeness in Him. Pray for kindness towards others in a way that truly honors Christ.
If you have 5 minutes:
Listen to the song “Brighter Days” by Leeland.
If you have 30 minutes:
Watch real video testimonies of men whose lives have been changed by Welcome Home Ministries. Take a few moments to pray for the men of Welcome Home and for this ministry that has affected their lives in such a positive way.
If you have a day:
Spend the day shopping! Visit www.siloamhealth.org to find their “donation wish list” and spend time gathering items needed at Siloam.
If you have a week:
Help Welcome Home by gathering and donating men’s work clothes, tools, or other useful materials, or register for their upcoming golf tournament on Friday, September 25.
